My reflection tonight is so profound that I decided to write a post about the insight I had while praying. I feel so humble and grateful for this gift. I’ve been working on providing more wellness experiences for my body, since I realized that as a spiritual being, I am complete and need nothing. It is my body that needs resources to increase my health, mobility, stamina, longevity, and joy of living. So, receiving this reflection about connection touched me.
Day Two Insight – Power Prayer for Animals
Most people are busy with their lives – earning a living to care for themselves and their families, day-to-day chores, taking care of their children. There hardly seems time to contemplate the challenges found in nature and in the animal kingdom, in particular. How can busy people volunteer at shelters? How can people who have little wiggle room give more financial support? How can two employed parents take on an adopted animal and care for it appropriately?
Reflection – We Are Estranged from Our Bodies
We look for the challenge of being part of the solution because we just don’t get the value of connecting with animals, and it’s not just that pets are great companions and love us unconditionally. The connection is even more fundamental than that. Physically, we are animals. We have mammalian bodies. All mammals are a part of our genetic family: whales, dolphins, apes, chimpanzees, bears, cats, dogs, seals…. When we become estranged from mammals, we do so because we are estranged from our own bodies.
Reflection – How Can We Reconnect with Our Physical Nature?
So, first, let’s become friends with our bodies. Let’s eat higher quality foods, let’s give up eating foods that are chemically altered or processed. Let’s hydrate. Let’s exercise and get out in the fresh air and sunshine. Let’s walk barefoot in the grass. Let’s have massages, take lovely hot baths, use wonderfully scented lotions on our skin. Let’s start treating our bodies like they are our valuable partners in life. Once we can reestablish a good relationship with our bodies, there will be less of whatever we stress about.
Reflection – Caring for Our Bodies Will Show Us
How to Contribute to the Animal Kingdom
When we value our bodies and care for them, instead of abusing them, we can then appreciate our animal brothers and sisters. We can adopt animals in shelters and give them the care they deserve. We can start valuing animals in nature and become more active in solving their challenges. And, while we move through this process, we can continue to spend 5 minutes every day praying for their highest good. When you pray for the highest good for animals, know that your body is included in that group. This makes the daily practice of the power prayers for animals a win/win.
