I’ve spent the last week focusing on self-care, resting and letting my body receive and integrate all the energy and information that came in over the Full Moon and Equinox. In the past, I wouldn’t allow my body to have down time like this. I acted out the World Program that “I was only as good as the last thing I did.” So, I constantly was in action, working more and more in the hope that something I did would create the life changes I sought. I never allowed myself to rest because I didn’t understand that I couldn’t receive the answers to my prayers when I constantly was taking action.
Self-Care Supports Your Body Receiving
I’ve written a few blogs walking around the subject of energy cycles, such as: http://www.transcendentjourney.com/follow-the-energy/. Simply put, energy naturally cycles. There is an active phase of energy when working is effective. In the active phase, the energy is outgoing. Then, there is a receptive phase of energy where the Universe gives you feedback. In the receptive phase, energy is incoming. In order for your body to sort through and integrate this feedback, rest is optimal. Unfortunately, in the West, where Puritanical heritage still influences our work ethic, we know how to act but understand very little about how to rest. Even our relaxation time is filled with activity.
The truth of the matter is that without rest, our bodies cannot receive what we are asking for. We receive very little when we are active.
Things I Do for Self-Care
I thought you might enjoy hearing about how I take care of myself, especially during times when I feel the energy reverse directions and start moving in (That’s how I perceive receptive energy.):
- laying on the beach or near a lake and listening to the water move
- taking a cotton blanket out and placing it under my favorite tree so that I can lay down and look up through its branches and leaves
- reading a book for fun
- spending a day in silence
- sitting in silent meditation
- taking a hot bath with scented sea salt, with candle light and flavored water on hand
- having a manicure and pedicure
- getting a massage
- having a foot reflexology session
- listening to tranquil music
- drinking hot herbal tea or warm milk
All of these activities also support me when I’m working. Taking a break and making sure I eat, hydrate, and move are all important parts of pacing activity, too.
I would love to hear how you take care of yourself. Please leave a comment and let me know.
