Create Your Sacred Space
Your sacred space is a place where you can find yourself again and again. Joseph Campbell.
What is a sacred space? To me, it’s a place where I intend to “let it all go” and focus on my present moment relationship with Divine.
Outside
Is your sacred space outside? After my electrocution, when I couldn’t walk, I’d lay in bed and pet my cat, looking out my bedroom window at our river birch. It stood so tall and straight; something I couldn’t do any more. Then, one day I was inspired to get out of bed, with the intention of hugging the tree, no matter what it took. I would crawl out of bed, and every day I would get a little closer to the tree, until one day I was there. I pulled myself up to a standing position and hugged my river birch friend. This is a holy place for me, where I often do my tobacco prayers.
Inside
Is your sacred space inside your home? Have you set aside some place to marvel at the beauty of life in peace and quiet? Over the years I have been blessed with many gifts. As I continue to have more and more understanding of the connectedness of all things, I build altars using these sacred objects. They are the story of my current understanding, so they change often. But even more importantly, I love building them!
As Above, So Below. As Within, So Without
Isn’t it really true that your holy place is inside you? An external symbol just helps you focus inside. Have you touched into your connection lately? Just breath into your heart. You’ll find The Way!
